Former TNA Wrestling star Steve Maclin has reportedly had early talks with AEW following his recent departure from the company.
The report comes just a few weeks after TNA Wrestling announced on June 7 that Maclin had been granted his release, making him a free agent. His exit followed reports that he was unhappy with the company’s creative direction, bringing his five-year run with TNA to an end.
Steve Maclin’s AEW future remains uncertain despite preliminary contact
According to Fightful Select, AEW has made preliminary contact with Maclin. However, there is no word yet on a contract, and a deal does not appear to be close.
“Regarding Steve Maclin, @FightfulSelect was told there has been at least preliminary contact between him and AEW, but we can’t confirm a deal at this time,” the report states.
During his time in TNA, Maclin became one of the promotion’s biggest stars. He won the TNA World Championship and regularly featured in the main event scene. His final months with the company turned out eventful. He was first written off through the Feast or Fired match before returning and eventually asking for his release.
While nothing has been agreed upon with AEW, the reported contact suggests the promotion is at least interested in bringing him in.
Maclin has also spoken openly about AEW in the past. During an Instagram Live session on June 27, he said AEW would be a good fit for him. He also named MLW as another possible destination but added that wrestling in Japan remains his biggest career goal.
A move to AEW would also reunite Maclin with his wife, Deonna Purrazzo. She signed with the company in 2024 and is the current ROH Women’s Pure Champion.
The report also shared that another former TNA star, Sami Callihan, has been working backstage in AEW as a producer on a trial basis since leaving TNA earlier this year. If everything goes well, it could turn into a full-time role.
