WWE Headquarters Flag Installed as Symbol of Freedom Linked to Fire Incident

An American flag at WWE Headquarters that reportedly caused widespread power outages in Connecticut following a weekend storm was installed by former CEO Vince McMahon.

According to the Stamford Advocate, strong winds tore a large American flag from WWE Headquarters on Saturday night. The flag flew into nearby power lines and an initial fire was reported, followed by major power outages for local customers.

The incident initially caused nearly 5,000 Stamford customers to lose power. Eversource restored electricity to about 3,000 customers within 20 minutes. However, the situation worsened as the flag shifted and made contact with an energized transmission line while crews worked to remove it. According to Stamford utility spokesperson Kaitlyn Woods, the incident affected nearly 40,000 customers in total.

Vince McMahon is the reason the flag was installed on top of the building, which became the new WWE headquarters in 2023.

In a 2023 interview with Fox News Digital, Vince McMahon spoke about raising one of the largest flags in the United States. The 3,040-square-foot flag was installed outside WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, on Veterans Day in 2023. The flag measures 76 feet wide and 40 feet tall.

“It’s one of the largest flags in the country and I think it’s a representation of how so many people feel about our country,” McMahon said.

“Not too many flags fly these days. And this is something that’s nonpolitical, simply the patriotism of what we stand for and what so many people in our country stand for. The size of it, I think, just represents how many people in our country love our armed forces, love what they have done, especially those who gave their lives.”

Vince McMahon’s long-standing association with WWE came to an end in early 2024 after he resigned from his positions at WWE and its parent company, TKO Group Holdings. His departure followed a lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant, which contained allegations of sexual misconduct and sex trafficking.
