Released WWE Star Says Everybody At His Tryout Was Told They’d Be Signed

Former WWE star Andre Chase (AKA Andre Chance) has shared more details about the unusual tryout that eventually led to his WWE career. According to Chase, everyone involved was originally told they would be getting a contract.

WWE tryouts are known for pushing athletes to their limits by testing their athletic ability, ring awareness, and attitude. Having to do all of that while following COVID protocols made things even harder.

Despite being told that all participants would be signed, that wasn’t how things played out.

Andre Chase believes his tryout was “cursed”

Speaking on the Between Two Jobs podcast, Andre Chase recalled being part of a small WWE tryout held during the pandemic. At the time, former WWE executive Canyon Ceman reportedly told the group that the tryout was mostly a formality because WWE had already decided to sign all 10 participants.

“In my try, he was like, ‘Listen, we’re calling 10 guys. It’s a small try out.’ He was like, ‘Everybody’s getting signed. You just got to come do it.’ Like he told us that,” Chase said.

Because of that, the atmosphere felt very different from a normal WWE tryout. The wrestlers believed they had already earned WWE’s trust and had to go through the process.

“This tryout was cursed,” Chase said. “So he told us everybody at the try. He was like, ‘You all are the group that we are going to sign. You just got like, you know, got to come to the trial and everything’s cool.'”

The experience was anything but easy. Since it took place during the pandemic, everyone had to complete the physically demanding drills while wearing face masks.

However, contrary to the original claim, only three of ten participants were eventually hired, and Andre Chase was one of them.

“But again, out of the 10 that they said, ‘Hey, you all are definitely getting hired,’ only three of us ended up getting hired. So, me, Anthony, Henry, and Blake Christian. It just for for a litany of different reasons, they were like, ‘You all you guys are getting signed.’ And then it just worked out to where it was only three of us,” Chase explained.
