Liv Morgan Stalker Found Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity

WWE star Liv Morgan’s stalker has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Shawn Chan (42), the man who was accused of stalking WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, stood trial before the U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Florida on Monday, June 15, 2026. He was charged with one count of interstate domestic violence and faced a sentence of up to five years in prison.

He had filed a notice to pursue an insanity defense in December 2025. According to POST Wrestling, the court ruled that he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. He has been detained for over a year up to this point.

The court session lasted a little over 30 minutes, and Shawn Chan waived his right to a jury trial, allowing Judge Mary S. Scriven to rule on this case. The judge decided that the U.S. Marshal Service would coordinate with ICE to release Chan, a Canadian resident, into its custody. While court records didn’t explain what’s next for him, the normal procedure is for ICE to detain him until he’s deported from the U.S.

According to the criminal complaints against him, Chan flew from Scarborough, Ontario, to Orlando, Florida, on May 31, 2025. He then drove up to Liv Morgan’s property, circled it for a few hours, tried to enter, and left a handwritten note before leaving. He then showed up at the WWE Performance Center a few days later, where Morgan was present for an NXT taping. Security identified him and alerted authorities, who arrested and took him to the Pasco County Detention Center.

Shawn Chan held the belief that Liv Morgan was his girlfriend

Two separate psychologists determined that Shawn Chan was unable to accept the wrongfulness of his actions due to his mental instability. During an evaluation while he was in jail in August 2025, Chan was diagnosed with delusional disorder and adjustment disorder with depressed and anxious moods. He had falsely claimed to have known Liv Morgan from high school. “Thought content included obsessions, delusions of grandeur, erotomania, and paranoia,” his observations read.

Doctors stated that Chan didn’t get any treatment for mental health issues in the past, and that he didn’t see a doctor in over 20 years. Despite determining that he was mentally ill, evaluations found that he was otherwise intelligent. “[B]efore the onset of psychiatric symptoms or other potentially interfering factors, Mr. Chan likely functioned at a high average level of general intellectual ability.”

Shawn Chan held the delusional belief that Liv Morgan was his girlfriend and told psychologists that he traveled to check on her. He also told them that he had been hearing the voice of God since his early 20s. He said the voice tells him what to do and that he continued to hear it while he was in jail.

Psychologists’ comments on Chan’s condition

The psychologists noted the following in Shawn Chan’s evaluation.

“Mr. Chan described a longstanding belief system involving professional wrestling figures and entertainment industry executives. He reported that beginning in adolescence, he developed ideas for characters and storylines that were later adopted by professional wrestlers. He stated that he believed certain wrestlers he encountered online were connected to him through this intellectual property and that he was owed recognition and financial compensation.

“Mr. Chan reported that he believed a well-known professional wrestler [Liv Morgan] was his significant other. He described traveling to Florida with the intention of contacting senior figures in professional wrestling through her and believed that visiting her residence was appropriate and justified. He stated that he left a letter at the front door of her home, slept on the porch, and attempted to enter the residence after hearing noises, believing he was checking on her safety. Mr. Chan endorsed beliefs involving a global conspiracy related to weapons and terrorism and described prominent entertainment figures as participating in efforts to combat this conspiracy. These beliefs were described as factual and accurate by Mr. Chan at the time of the offense.

According to court documents, Chan was a computer technician for ten years, but was unemployed at the time of his arrest. He was born in Hong Kong, and noted in his evaluation that he suffered childhood neglect and punishment. He moved to Quebec with his family in 1990, where he felt alienated as the only Asian student. He briefly returned to Hong Kong to reconnect with family and finally relocated to Ontario as an adult in 2005.
