More Details On Drew McIntyre’s New Movie Amid WWE Absence

Drew McIntyre’s absence from WWE television now appears to have a clear explanation, as the former WWE Champion has landed another major Hollywood role alongside Russell Crowe.

The new project adds another chapter to McIntyre’s growing acting resume and may keep him away from the squared circle longer than some fans expected.

Recent online speculation suggested McIntyre could be heading back to WWE programming ahead of SummerSlam.

However, reports indicate that creative doesn’t have concrete plans for his return, with the Scottish star instead focusing on opportunities in the film industry.

Drew McIntyre joins Russell Crowe in The Last Druid

McIntyre has officially been cast in The Last Druid, a historical action film starring Academy Award winner Russell Crowe. Filming is already underway in Spain, with William Eubank directing the project.

The movie tells the story of a Roman Emperor who discovers a hidden Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia. Crowe will portray a peaceful Celtic elder who is forced to take up arms to defend his family and people from destruction. McIntyre’s specific role has not yet come to light.

The film also features Stacy Clausen, Pablo Derqui, and Tennyson Crowe. For McIntyre, it marks another significant step into Hollywood after previously appearing in Dave Bautista’s The Killer’s Game and securing a role in the upcoming Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill. In that project, McIntyre portrays the brother of Cavill’s lead character.

The casting news may also explain why WWE fans shouldn’t expect the former world champion back anytime soon. According to reports (PWInsider), McIntyre has been exploring multiple film opportunities since returning from Scotland after filming Highlander.

McIntyre has not appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu. While his WWE future remains unchanged, his current path seems focused on the silver screen rather than the ring.
