Steve Maclin’s departure from TNA Wrestling continues to generate discussion across the industry. One veteran who is paying close attention is Matt Hardy.
Speaking recently on his podcast, Hardy shared his thoughts on Maclin’s exit while hinting that the former TNA World Champion could have several paths available moving forward.
Maclin’s release became official earlier this month after he requested to leave the company, ending a five-year run that saw him become one of TNA’s most decorated stars. While his next destination remains unknown, Hardy made it clear he’s eager to see what comes next.
Matt Hardy praises Steve Maclin following TNA exit
On The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy spoke highly of Maclin’s reputation both inside and outside the ring.
“It’s going to be really interesting. He’s a very talented guy, he’s very passionate, he’s hardworking. He’s universally liked,” Hardy said. “I’m curious. I’m excited.”
Hardy also revealed that Maclin’s departure came as a surprise to him. According to Hardy, he believed Maclin would remain with TNA longer while negotiations continued.
“I just know that he was still going to be around at TNA for a little while, and I think he was doing some negotiating, trying to figure out what works best for him,” Hardy explained. “I don’t think he could find something that worked for everyone, all parties involved, and then he just asked if he could have his release.”
The departure itself was notable. Maclin reportedly wanted to keep the matter private, but TNA publicly announced both his exit and Myla Grace’s departure. Maclin later confirmed he had requested his release and thanked the company for his five years in the promotion.
Hardy also discussed potential landing spots for the former champion. While not making any predictions, he pointed to opportunities across the wrestling landscape.
“There’s a space out there, you know, underneath the AEW umbrella… Ring of Honor. I know he has a good relationship with Scott D’Amore. Who knows,” Hardy said before adding, “I wish him the best, whatever it is.”
Maclin leaves TNA after a successful run that included reigns as TNA World Champion and International Champion.
With free agency now underway, his next move remains one of wrestling’s more intriguing unanswered questions. As Hardy suggested, the road ahead appears wide open — and Maclin may soon have plenty of bodies left to stack.
