TNA Wrestling has been making headlines for several weeks because of the multiple releases that happened this month. But according to AJ Francis, the wrestling media coverage has been far from balanced.
TNA has undergone several roster and backstage changes in recent weeks as part of what the company described as a “workforce reduction” ahead of Slammiversary.
Some of the biggest departures included Tommy Dreamer, who left the company after working both on-screen and behind the scenes in creative. TNA also released Sami Callihan after he reportedly expected a creative role within the promotion.
Former TNA World Champion Tessa Blanchard departed after requesting her release. The promotion also granted Steve Maclin his release. Myla Grace left after a relatively short run, while digital producer Luke Paron was among several backstage departures.
AJ Francis challenges wrestling media to cover TNA’s recent roster additions too
After TNA confirmed that Allie had signed with the company, AJ Francis shared the announcement on social media. He called out what he sees as uneven reporting.
Francis argued that wrestling media tends to heavily promote stories about releases, exits, and backstage changes, while positive developments often get far less attention.
“Make sure yall report this and Tasha re-signing as loudly and proudly as yall report people being granted their release that they asked for,” Francis tweeted.
Francis wasn’t saying those recent departure stories shouldn’t be reported. Instead, he believes positive news should receive the same level of attention.
From Francis’ point of view, both Allie and Tasha’s signings show that TNA continues to attract and retain talent despite recent challenges. He believes those stories have been overshadowed by the attention given to releases.
However, given the profile of those names, it’s also understandable why many wrestling outlets focused heavily on the exits.
