Matt Hardy has clarified a small but noticeable detail from an old WWE SmackDown broadcast after a fan pointed it out on social media.
A viewer recently took to X while rewatching the April 24, 2009 episode of WWE SmackDown for reference, noting an unusual “sticker-looking lettering” on the back of Hardy’s tights that had not been present before.
“Yes this is unimportant, but I’m watching old episodes of smackdown for references and I can’t help but notice this sticker-looking lettering in the back of Matt Hardy’s tights on the 4/24/2009 episode. So jarring to me ’cause it wasn’t there before and it looked way better lol,” the fan wrote.
Hardy saw the post and responded directly, explaining the reason behind the design change. According to Matt, the lettering was used to cover up a wardrobe malfunction that happened during a live event the night before the SmackDown taping.
“It was there to cover up a massive tear/rip in my tights that occurred the night before on a live event. Had a new black pair made the following week (as well as the purple & blue ones) to replace the damaged one.”
The Hardys have recently been active in TNA Wrestling. On the June 18 episode of TNA iMPACT, Matt and Jeff Hardy teamed up with Moose against The System. The match ended after interference from The Righteous and Alisha Edwards distracted The Hardys and Moose, allowing Eddie Edwards to pick up the victory for his team.
