Goldberg and Brock Lesnar shared the ring several times in WWE. To the WWE legend, he believes that was also his greatest opponent.
Speaking to Going Ringside while at River City Wrestling Con, Goldberg brought up his legendary rivalry with Lesnar. The two faced off many times, and to Goldberg, it was the best opponent he’s ever gotten to work with.
“At the end of the day, Brock Lesnar was my best opponent, because he was a mirror image of myself, just as a blonde wrestler,” said Goldberg. “And you know, I played football. So, the dynamic of having two absolute monsters in the ring together, I was more excited than anyone because he was a guy that could take it if I hit him.”
Goldberg holds the edge over Brock Lesnar in their feud
Lesnar and Goldberg have met in the ring three times throughout their careers, the first of which came in 2004 at WrestleMania XX. Goldberg picked up the win, with Steve Austin serving as special guest referee. However, that match was widely criticized at the time. Fans also knew that both Lesnar and Goldberg were on their way out of the company.
Goldberg beat Lesnar in his WWE return match at Survivor Series 2016. They both competed in the 2017 men’s Royal Rumble match. Their final bout came in 2017 at WrestleMania 33 in a match that Lesnar won. Over the course of their history, Goldberg holds the winning edge over Lesnar, having won two of the three singles matches.
During the interview, Goldberg also explained why signing with WWE was an “unwinnable” situation. However, he ultimately praised Triple H as being a good guy.
