Eric Young has finally addressed his TNA exit after the company announced his release. The former two-time TNA World Champion took to social media to clear up the rumors, explain what really happened, and set the record straight about his exit.
TNA officially confirmed Young’s departure in a statement released on Wednesday, bringing another chapter of his legendary career with the company to an end.
“TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Eric Young, effective immediately. EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Young’s latest run with TNA began in 2023 after a short second stint with WWE.
Eric Young says leaving TNA was his decision
Not long after Fightful Select reported that TNA had granted his release, Young took to social media to explain what really happened. He made it clear that he was the one who asked to leave and said several reports online were simply wrong.
Young tweeted.
“The internet is FN WILD! 3 things to know about the news today!!!!
- I asked for my release! They granted it!
- I was never on a handshake deal. I have had a binding contract the entire time!
- I will work where I want how I want and for whom I want! My track record, resume , accolades and reputation are proof of that!
See you soon!!!!”
Young’s statement directly challenged an earlier report, which claimed he had been working without a formal contract before recently signing a short-term deal. According to Young, he had been under a binding contract for his entire return in TNA.
Young first joined TNA in 2004 and spent nearly two decades with the company across three different runs. During that time, he grew from a comedy character into one of TNA’s most respected veterans.
