Former WWE Champion Admits Abrupt Release Left Him Unsatisfied

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal recently opened up about his WWE departure. Now competing as Raj Dhesi, he admitted his sudden exit never gave him the closure he wanted.

Dhesi, formerly known as Jinder Mahal, left WWE in April 2024. After his contract expired, he returned to the independent wrestling scene under Raj Dhesi.

Speaking on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Dhesi said he is open to another WWE run. However, he wants the company to have a clear long-term plan instead of bringing him back without direction. He also admitted he doesn’t want to deal with the uncertainty and anxiety of roster cuts again.

Later in the interview, Dhesi reflected on how his WWE career ended. He admitted the abrupt release left him feeling unsatisfied.

Raj Dhesi says his WWE exit ended too suddenly

“At the same time, I didn’t feel like I got satisfaction out of the way my WWE career ended. Just abruptly, out of nowhere, not being used for several weeks, and then just a phone call. I’d love to do a loser leaves town and ride off into the sunset that way.”

“And very, very few of us get to do this, where you can call your shot, call the way that your WWE career ends, or end it on your terms. Really, I think that’s one thing that I wish I could experience, but if it doesn’t happen, it’s all good.”

Despite the disappointing ending, Dhesi said he remains grateful for everything WWE gave him. “I benefited so much from my time in WWE. Still benefit from it to this very day. And again, it’s all about leverage. Using that opportunity that I had to essentially use it as a launch pad for my next whatever that is looking like in the future.”

He continued, “And that’s one thing that I do want to open up the dialogue about, what it looks like to leave WWE or pro wrestling. How do we navigate this? How do we find ourselves? Just our whole value of how we perceive ourselves is wrapped up in this crazy industry, in this character that we don’t own. It’s a very interesting time for myself, and I’m learning so much about myself.”
