Jack Perry has officially committed his future to AEW, but a new report suggests there was never much chance of him switching sides.
While speculation surrounded his contract status in recent weeks, WWE reportedly wasn’t preparing to make a move if he entered free agency.
AEW confirmed Perry’s new contract during the July 8 edition of Dynamite: Beach Break, bringing an end to the uncertainty over one of the company’s original homegrown stars.
WWE reportedly showed little interest in Jack Perry
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE had “little to no” internal discussions about pursuing Perry had he become a free agent. The report added that the prevailing opinion within the company was that he wasn’t viewed as a fit for WWE’s current landscape.
That revelation adds a new wrinkle to Perry’s contract story. Bryan Alvarez had previously reported that Perry’s AEW deal was nearing its expiration without a new agreement in place, fueling speculation about his future. However, AEW quickly shut the door on those rumors with a video package showing Perry signing a new contract alongside company president Tony Khan.
Before Forbidden Door, Khan had already expressed confidence that Perry would remain with AEW.
“The plan for AEW and Jack is for Jack to be here for a long time,” Khan said. “I have believed that Jack is a great wrestler for many years… He has a very bright future in wrestling.”
The AEW President also praised Perry’s recent run, adding, “It’s been really gratifying… to see the return of Jungle Jack and seeing fans embrace Jack and the great matches he’s been having.”
Perry has been with AEW since 2019, evolving from Jungle Boy into one of the promotion’s defining stars. Along the way, he captured tag team and singles gold while becoming a central figure in some of AEW’s biggest storylines. As the contract saga reaches its finish, there’s no heel turn in this tale — Perry is staying exactly where AEW wanted him to be.
