Jim Ross Confirms He’ll Undergo ‘Brain Surgery’ in Health Update

AEW‘s Jim Ross has revealed that he’s set to undergo brain surgery.

WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW commentator Jim Ross has been dealing with several health issues as of late. He recently had an extended hospital stay and suffered a serious fall. The legend also revealed that he’s getting tested for possible dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Ross provided an update on his health while speaking on the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, revealing that he’s undergoing brain surgery. He noted that he recently visited a cardiologist for a preoperative cardiac evaluation to get clearance to undergo the procedure.

“I’m getting ready to have another surgery, brain surgery this time. That’s going to be an adventure because I don’t think they’re going to find much in my brain.” When asked if it’s a major surgery, Jim Ross said, “I’ll be in the hospital for a few days. Hopefully nothing will go wrong.”

He continued, “I got a great surgeon, and, matter of fact, I had to go to a cardiologist today, heart doctor, and talk to him about this upcoming procedure. He had to approve it, or they wouldn’t do it. So he did, and they’re going to do it soon. I just don’t have a confirmed date set. But it’s going to be the next week or so. It’s just an illness, and I gotta get it addressed.”

JR says his recent hospital stay came after he passed out in his house

Speaking further, Jim Ross noted that he’s undergoing surgery because he keeps forgetting things and stressed that he can’t continue to live that way. He also revealed that his recent near 40-day hospitalization came after he passed out in his home.

JR shared that the procedure he’s undergoing is a shunt. It’s to implant a flexible tube in his brain to drain excess cerebrospinal fluid and redirect it to another area of the body for natural reabsorption.

“I couldn’t live my life the way it was. I forget s**t and just couldn’t remember things. It was just horrible. I felt horrible. But that all started with me passing out in my house and being discovered there, which began an almost 40-day hospital stay. And let me tell you, that’s a long-a** time. Those beds are small and lumpy, and the food is predictable, and apart sometimes the help doesn’t give a s**t if you’re fit or not. I didn’t like it,” JR continued.

“So, anyhow, this procedure that I’m getting ready to have done, I think it’s called a shunt. It’ll go from my brain. I don’t know where all it’s going to go, but it’s going someplace to get that fluid off my brain that’s making me not remember stuff. So, it’s fairly serious,” he explained.
