4/12 Wrestlezone Recap: USA Announces WWE Monopoly, Ronda/Stephanie Update, Backstage Morale Issues, Brock Lesnar, The Rock & Tons More

TNA NEWS

Backstage TNA morale is down, as the company has yet again fallen behind on paying their performers. This time the problem comes from parent company Panda Energy, but wrestlers aren’t happy about the decaying live event business.

Destination America sent out a big press release about doing the best numbers in network history, mostly thanks to the acquisition of Impact Wrestling and the various other TNA recap shows they’ve been running. It was the kind of thing that Discovery and TV officials were celebrating, but the in-the-know wrestling fans understand the company is still doing peanuts compared to their days on Spike TV with monthly PPV.

Because of an injury, The Wolves were forced to vacate the tag titles on last week’s episode. There will be a battle on this week’s show to determine entrants in an Ultimate-X match that will decide the new set of champions.

MISC. WRESTLING NEWS

This week was the one year anniversary of the passing of the Ultimate Warrior. The date was publicly noted by many, including his widow Dana Warrior.

Former NFL star Shawne Merriman blasted CM Punk during an interview with Fox Sports. And I quote, “I just want to make him feel pain.”

The biggest story of the week came from long-time wrestling veteran Scott Steiner, who allegedly approached Hulk Hogan’s wife in the San Jose airport and threatened to “kill Terry”. TMZ reported police were looking into felony terrorist threat charges. In response Steiner did the Steiner thing, calling the Hulkster a liar and claiming he was just afraid of Big Poppa Pump.

Uhaa Nation and a few other indie stars we’ve been reporting on for months have finally arrived at the WWE Performance Center. I’m sure they’ll be evaluated, run through the ropes and we’ll start to see a few pop up at NXT live events and dark matches over the summer.

Paragon Pro Wrestling is getting a national TV deal.

Lucha Underground has plans to wrap up its current season with a two hour special. The plan has always been to tape throughout the year and take the summer off. We’ll see how that actually plays out…
