7/12 Wrestlezone Recap: WWE 2K16 Cover Story, Battleground Hype, Aries Returns to ROH, Piper-Austin Drama; This Week’s Biggest News Stories

WWE News

Brock Lesnar destroyed a car on Monday Night RAW this past week, and in the absolute demolition the “Beast Incarnate” accidentally threw a door at a fan in the audience. Yep. The fan was completely fine, and WWE jumped on it right away, given him all kinds of goodies and making sure he didn’t require any kind of medical attention.

WWE Battleground is coming up next weekend, and right now we’re looking at Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar for the world title as the big main event, with the third match in the John Cena vs. Kevin Owens series taking place for the U.S. Championship. Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns will also lock up, with several other confirmed and rumored undercard matches to take place.

Kevin Owens vs. Finn Balor in a rematch for the NXT Championship will headline the NXT Takeover show as the promotion comes to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn the day before SummerSlam this August. NXT will be taping the next month’s worth of television soon, so we should have a look at the final card very soon.

steve austinSteve Austin made a bold claim that he had wrestled his last match, putting the proverbial nail in the coffin that he will not be wrestling at next year’s WrestleMania in Texas, which is set to be the biggest show in WWE history. But you know what they say in this business – NEVER SAY NEVER! It’s interesting to me that Austin, throughout the last handful of years, has always entertained the idea saying that he probably wouldn’t wrestle again, but would always consider the right offer at the right time. And now, after being put on the cover of WWE 2K16 and being more visible in the public eye than he has since leaving WWE all those years ago, he had decided to “officially” shut the door. I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, and a part of me wonders if Austin isn’t just intentionally trying to work the fans on this one.

Adam Pearce has begun work full-time at the WWE Performance Center as a trainer.

After Dianna left the show in the most predictable departure in Tough Enough history, WWE has brought in Chelsea Green as her replacement going forward. Chelsea has a great relationship with many of the Divas and a few of the Superstars, and was previously seen on WWE TV as Daniel Bryan’s physical therapist that was accused of having an affair with the former World Heavyweight Champion.

A long-time WWE creative writer and the former creative head of Monday Night RAW has left WWE to take a job with Dwayne Johnson’s company.
