According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had plans to debut AJ Styles as a surprise Royal Rumble entrant, thinking he would get a huge reaction from the Orlando crowd familiar with his TNA tenure.

Plans may change now that it’s known he’s been in discussions with WWE, but the company had hoped his debut could be a big surprise like when Alberto Del Rio returned to WWE to face John Cena in October.

The Wrestling Observer updated an original report about John Cena’s injury status, noting Cena is believed to have suffered a torn labrum, and could be out from 6-9 months. Cena, who requested to have the surgery as soon as possible, had surgery on his shoulder earlier today. At this point in time he will be unable to wrestle at Wrestlemania 32, but will probably appear on WWE biggest show in some shape or form.
