Update: What Randy Orton Was Told About The Finish To His SummerSlam Match With Brock Lesnar

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the finish to the Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar match at SummerSlam went as planned… for the most part. They went on to note that the idea behind the finish was create a scenario where nobody knew where reality ended and where people thought Brock Lesnar was going against what was scripted.

Apparently Randy Orton had been preparing for a typical main event until he arrived at the arena that day. He was then informed that his match would not be a normal match. Rather than having a match that is back and forth and keeps both Superstars strong the idea for the match was just to make Brock Lesnar look stronger. Originally the match was said to be a one-sided destruction by Lesnar that would have left Orton on the ground bleeding. It was supposed to come off like Brock Lesnar had gone off script and really hurt Orton leading to a lot of confusion and the referee stoppage.

The Observer finishes by saying that Orton was told that Brock knew how to graze him with his elbow in order to cut him without hurting him. He was then told that was what would be happening in the match. It turned out that Brock really elbowed Orton and hit him with some stiff punches causing Orton to need 10 staples to close the wound on the top of his head. Orton did as he was told to do acted like he was knocked out while the WWE trainer and referees looked confused. They really were. The confusion then led to the referee stopping the match due to blood and Orton’s condition which was really the only way for the referee to end it.
