WWE Considering King Of The Ring As Standalone PPV Event In 2023

King Of The Ring could once again be a standalone pay-per-view event.

There’s been plenty of speculation about WWE making some changes to its event calendar in 2023, including hosting fewer gimmick name pay-per-views (premium live events) and doing one UK-based show per year.

According to a new report by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via F4WOnline.com), WWE is also considering the idea of bringing King of the Ring back as a standalone event, and it would feature both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

The last King Of The Ring pay-per-view took place in 2002. The tournament itself has been held since then, but it’s been featured on weekly television shows or later rounds have been featured on PPVs. In 2021, WWE hosted a King Of The Ring tournament (won by Xavier Woods) and a Queen’s Crown tournament (won by Zelina Vega), with the tournament finals taking place at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

One other notable change to the event calendar could involve WWE Day 1, which was previously confirmed as taking place on January 1 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. It was previously reported that Day 1 was being cancelled, and tickets for the event are still not on-sale or announced. Meltzer noted that WWE’s deal with Peacock calls for 12 pay-per-view events per year, meaning that WWE would have to add another show to make up for Day 1 if it is officially cancelled.
