This WWE Champion took some big inspiration from Lionel Messi.
Drew McIntyre is back on top after defeating Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Scottish Warrior did the unthinkable inside a steel cage on SmackDown two weeks ago in Germany.
Although McIntyre received an unlikely assist from Jacob Fatu, he capitalized on the distraction the Samoan Werewolf inadvertently caused by escaping through the cage door. In doing so, he became the first man to win a world title on SmackDown since Brock Lesnar’s infamous victory over Kofi Kingston years ago.
The first thing Drew McIntyre did after his crowning moment was get into bed, literally, with the Undisputed WWE Championship. The post quickly went viral online, sparking a wave of memes and reactions.

During a recent appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Drew McIntyre revealed the hilarious backstory behind his viral social media post, noting that the inspiration came from none other than football icon Lionel Messi.
“My buddy actually had the idea come from Messi, the biggest Instagram post of all time, and that’s where the idea came from and a few athletes have replicated it since, and I wanted to be one of the athletes that did it. He suggested it to me, I said that’s absolutely perfect, it suits me, suits the character perfect.
“I gave it a good old wash first because I don’t want Cody’s dirty little germs on me to give me anything, but then I slept with it, then I woke up with it, because it’s been a very long tour, I’ve been on the road for more weeks than I can count at this point, I got home for 12 hours, but it’s been absolutely worth it.
“I actually woke up and thought it was a dream for a second, I looked beside me, and I legitimately slept with it, so that wasn’t a bit, I really did sleep with the title,” Drew McIntyre said. [H/T: WrestleTalk]
