CM Punk Dredges Up Roman Reigns’ “Irrelevant” Comment About WWE Hall of Famer on RAW

Tension around CM Punk’s personal comments on Roman Reigns’ family continued to grow on the March 9 episode of WWE RAW. During a heated segment, Punk brought up an old comment made by Reigns about the late WWE Hall of Famer while arguing with The Usos.

The drama actually started earlier in the show during a backstage interview. Jackie Redmond stopped Jey and Jimmy Uso to ask about the controversy from Punk’s promo the previous week. In that promo, CM Punk said that he would “bury” Roman Reigns next to his late father, Sika Anoa’i. The comment upset many fans and members of the Samoan wrestling family.

Later in the show, the situation finally exploded.

Punk walked out to the ring, and as he started talking about the criticism he faced for his remarks, The Usos came out to confront him directly.

Jey immediately stepped right up to Punk and demanded an apology for mentioning their late family member. Jimmy tried to keep things calm, but said his comment crossed the line.

He told Punk that bringing up their late uncle was disrespectful because Sika is no longer alive to defend himself.

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion then explained his side of the story. He said he actually has a lot of respect for the Anoa’i wrestling family. However, he also said he was sorry, not for his own comment, but for how Roman Reigns had treated his family for years.

He then brought up another controversial moment from the road to WrestleMania 40. Punk reminded everyone that during the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff Event, Reigns said that Cody Rhodes was “as irrelevant as your father,” referring to Dusty Rhodes, who is one of the most respected legends in wrestling.

“Nobody cares about your story, nobody cares you finishing the story. You are embarrassing your entire family now. You…understand this, you are irrelevant just like your dad,” Reigns said then.

Now, Punk argued that Reigns was never forced to answer for that comment, while people were now demanding accountability from him.

“I’m sorry Roman Reigns disrespected one of my mentors, the great American Dream Dusty Rhodes, the father of my friend Cody, when he called him irrelevant, and is somehow not on the hook for apologizing, but I am,” Punk said to The Usos.
