Alycia Baumgardner has caught the attention of pro wrestling fans after confirming that she is in talks with WWE. The super featherweight champion said that moving into wrestling is no longer just an idea.
Baumgardner currently holds the WBA, IBF, IBO, and WBO titles and has a strong 17-1 record with 7 knockouts. Right now, she has turned her focus on her next fight against Bo Mi Re Shin on April 17 at Madison Square Garden. But it’s clear she is also thinking about her future beyond boxing.
Alycia Baumgardner confirms WWE talks are already happening
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Baumgardner talked about how much she loved wrestling as a kid. She even joked about pretending to be a WWE Diva when she was younger.
“I could definitely be a WWE (superstar). I’m a Diva, for real… Funny story, me, my sister, and my friend growing up were big WWE fans. We literally thought we were Divas and we lit fireworks in the room to have our own walkout. That’s how serious it was,” Baumgardner said.
She also confirmed that talks with WWE have already started. According to her, both sides have reached out to each other. However, she hasn’t started wrestling training yet. So any move will take time.
“It’s in the works… Conversations are being had… Yes. I don’t turn no deal down if it makes sense. When we talk about building a brand, we talk about bigger and better. I’m not just a fighter, I’m not just a boxer. I think that’s why they are mad, because they gotta box. I don’t have to box. I love to box. I choose to box. We’re building something big. We’re building a brand that is made to last,” Baumgardner said.
Baumgardner also revealed that she is friends with the current WWE Women’s Champion, Jade Cargill. Baumgardner even invited Cargill to her fight. However, Cargill couldn’t attend because of her WWE schedule and a big match against Rhea Ripley.
