AEW World Champion MJF took his mind games to a new level on the June 3 episode of Dynamite. Before defending his World Championship against RUSH in a No Count Out Match, MJF made a memorable entrance, mocking RUSH’s “El Toro Blanco” character.
The rivalry intensified earlier in the night during a backstage interview. RUSH spoke about finally getting a chance to compete for the AEW World Championship after waiting more than three years.
He said he was fighting for his people and his pride and promised to give everything he had in the match. But before he could finish his trademark catchphrase, MJF interrupted.
He mocked the challenger and told him to finish his “cute little catchphrase.” MJF proclaimed that if RUSH is the bull, he is the matador and slapped him.
Later in the show, MJF turned RUSH’s nickname against him.
MJF entered dressed as a matador
For the match, MJF ditched his usual entrance and came out wearing a matador outfit.
The champion wore a blue-and-gold bullfighter costume, complete with a matching hat and red cape. The entrance was a direct jab at RUSH, whose nickname “El Toro Blanco” translates to “The White Bull.”
The outfit was a continuation of the “bull versus matador” comparison MJF had made earlier in the night. It’s another example of MJF using psychological tactics to get under an opponent’s skin before a big match.
Both men took a lot of punishment throughout the match. RUSH was left covered in blood, while MJF absorbed a lot of damage as well. The No Count Out stipulation allowed the fight to become even more chaotic.
RUSH continued to push forward despite suffering a dislocated shoulder and refused to back down. But later in the match, MJF finally found an opening.
He locked in a LeBell Lock submission hold. RUSH flipped MJF off while trapped in the hold but eventually passed out, and the referee had to stop the match.
