WWE’s Danhausen found himself in the middle of an unusual conversation this week after jokingly blaming U.S. President Donald Trump for the New York Knicks’ lone playoff defeat during their championship run.
The remarks came during an appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show, where the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star was asked whether he was actually afraid of the president.
The exchange added another chapter to Danhausen’s ongoing claim that he helped “uncurse” the Knicks during their successful postseason campaign — a storyline that has become almost as entertaining as a wrestling promo itself.
Danhausen explains why Donald Trump’s presence “Blocked” his powers
Speaking with Stephen A. Smith, the WWE star reflected on the Knicks’ playoff record after he became involved with the team.
“We cursed. They lost two games. We uncursed 13 and 0. They lost one. We won’t talk about that. That wasn’t my fault,” Danhausen said.
When Smith agreed it wasn’t his fault, Danhausen immediately pointed to another culprit.
“That was Trump. That was Trump. That wasn’t me. That was Donald Trump,” he said.
That answer prompted Smith to challenge him directly, asking whether the self-proclaimed all-powerful Danhausen was afraid to criticize the president.
“Wait a minute. You’re supposed to be the almighty, the all powerful Danhausen. Are you scared of the president?” Smith asked.
He quickly dismissed that idea.
“No,” he replied before adding, “Danhausen’s powers can only go so far.”
Later in the conversation, the WWE star clarified that fear wasn’t the issue. Instead, he suggested that his mystical “uncursing” abilities occasionally encounter resistance.
“Danhausen’s not afraid. But I’m just saying sometimes those powers get blocked. Every once in a while, one will come across and block it. That night it got blocked.”
The Knicks ultimately clinched the championship, allowing Danhausen to continue embracing the tongue-in-cheek narrative.
