WWE reportedly had an unexpected crossover planned for Saturday Night’s Main Event at Madison Square Garden. However, those plans have now changed due to circumstances outside the company’s control.
While one high-profile guest could still appear, fans may not see the originally discussed segment come to life.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE had explored bringing 2026 NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson into a storyline involving Danhausen during the July 18 special.
WWE reportedly shelved Jalen Brunson and Danhausen segment
The report states that WWE pitched several creative ideas featuring Brunson alongside Danhausen. However, after Brunson underwent left wrist surgery, the plans did not come to fruition. The injury ruled him out of any physical involvement at the event.
Despite the setback, WWE remains hopeful that the New York Knicks star will attend the show and make an on-screen appearance. Sometimes even the best-laid booking gets counted out before the opening bell.
The pairing would have built on Danhausen’s unlikely connection with the Knicks. Earlier this year, the “very nice, very evil” star gained national attention after jokingly “uncursing” the team. After releasing the curse, the Knicks won 15 of their next 16 playoff games before capturing their first NBA Championship since 1973.
The viral story led to Knicks-themed Danhausen merchandise and several ESPN appearances during the team’s championship run. Brunson even acknowledged Danhausen’s role in the lighthearted narrative, making the proposed crossover a natural fit.
As per the same reports, WWE has also extended invitations to several Knicks players. Multiple members of the championship-winning team are expected to attend Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Brunson is no stranger to WWE programming, having previously appeared in a memorable segment alongside Tyrese Haliburton, LA Knight, and Logan Paul. While fans may have to wait for a Brunson-Danhausen interaction, WWE still appears eager to feature the NBA champion if his recovery allows him to attend Madison Square Garden.
