The first and foremost reason behind banning of chair shots is the risk of concussion. It’s easy to say that when done rarely, the effects are not “as devastating”. But the real question is whether it’s worth the risk. We’ve seen proof of several wrestlers across different promotions having concussions and long-term symptoms that affect them for years even post-retirement.
The effects of concussions are nothing to be joked about because not only does it affect the wrestler, but it affects their families as well. There have been direct co-relations of concussions with abuse of alcohol and pills and in some cases, even domestic violence. For any promotion, the well-being of their performers is first and foremost.
