Best WWE RAW Matches Of 2009

2009 saw some truly great matches on WWE RAW. The red brand retained fan interest in the product with their guest host shtick and in-ring action. Shawn Michaels and Triple H reigned supreme as two of the most consistent performers on RAW.

The Heartbreak Kid delivered one of the greatest wrestling matches of all time against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25. The Game, on the other hand, held the RAW flag high with numerous classics against the likes of John Cena and Randy Orton.

With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the best WWE RAW matches of 2009:

Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio (Intercontinental Title Match – June 15)

Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio had arguably one of the greatest feuds of 2009. The self-proclaimed Best in the World didn’t miss out any opportunity to humiliate the Biggest Little Man in WWE. They had numerous classics at both PPV events and on weekly television.

One of their better matches took place on a super stacked edition of WWE RAW in June 2009. Jericho and Mysterio battled for the Intercontinental Championship. This was a great wrestling match from two of the very best in the business at the time.

DX vs. John Cena & The Undertaker vs. Jeri-Show (November 16)

This match can easily main event a WWE PLE in 2023. Back in 2009, this was the main event of a WWE RAW. D-Generation X were feuding with Jeri-Show, who were the undisputed tag team champions at the time.

WWE pulled out the big guns in John Cena and The Undertaker in this match as well. John Cena and The Undertaker were the WWE and World Heavyweight Champions, respectively, heading into this match at the historic Madison Square Garden.

The match had the crowd engaged from bell to bell. All six men delivered their big moves on different occasions in the match. Cena got the win for his team only to be put away with a tombstone piledriver by the Phenom.

CM Punk vs. Edge vs. Jeff Hardy (Triple Threat Match for World Heavyweight Championship)

CM Punk cashed-in his Money in the Bank against Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules 2009. The Second City Saint put his title on the line just eight days into his second world title win on the June 15, 2009, episode of WWE RAW.

Punk’s opponents were co-challengers Hardy and Edge. All three told a great story inside the ring. Edge and Hardy initially worked together against Punk, but the alliance quickly faded away.

The champion faked a knee injury in the closing moments of the match only to pick up the win by pinning Edge.

10-Man Tag Team Match (WWE RAW – April 6)

Vince McMahon booked a star-studded tag team match on the WWE RAW after WrestleMania 25. The match pitched a stacked babyface team against five of the most hated heels on the roster at the time.

Multiple storylines were tied into this match. You had John Cena fresh off his world title victory against both Edge and The Big Show. Ricky Steamboat and Chris Jericho had just picked up their feud from WrestleMania 25.

The Dragon looked the most impressive in this match despite his advanced age. WWE, in my opinion, did a good job by having Steamboat on their roster for his mini-run against Jericho in 2009.

John Cena vs. Triple H (WWE RAW – October 19)

This match was booked to look like John Cena’s last match on WWE RAW in 2009. The Cenation leader was coaxed into accepting Randy Orton’s stipulation for Bragging Rights 2009. Cena would’ve to leave the red brand forever in case he lost the match against Orton.

The match against Triple H turned out to be one of the best WWE RAW matches of 2009. Both men delivered some fantastic action for nearly 21 minutes before The Game put away his longtime opponent with a third pedigree for the win.
