Tessa Blanchard: WOW’s Production Is Unlike Anything Else In Wrestling

Tessa Blanchard was a guest on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio to talk about WOW: Women of Wrestling. The new program premieres tonight on AXS TV, and Blanchard was impressed with not only the unique storytelling but the overall production value.

“People think that we hired a bunch of actresses and taught them how to wrestle, and that couldn’t be further from the truth,” said Blanchard. “It’s really neat because each girl possesses their own character. It really takes on a life of its own. We have women that are mothers, we have businesswomen, girls with MMA backgrounds. There’s one girl in particular, she started this non-profit organization called the Bully Busters and WOW partnered with them to go into schools and talk to children about bullying and how to prevent it. I’m super passionate about that.”

“There’s girls from all walks of life and they came together and found this passion of wrestling. It’s different from anything on television right now. It sort of compares to GLOW by the characters, costumes and presentation, but also the production is like something I haven’t seen in wrestling before. It’s close to Lucha Underground, but it even exceeds that in my opinion. It takes the storylines of GLOW but incorporates the real wrestling. Women today are respected as athletes now and that’s a really cool thing to see. Each character you’ll see their backstory and see why the way they are.”
