Dr. Tom Prichard On The Importance Of ‘Authentic’ Stars In Wrestling

If you are an aspiring wrestling talent who has an appointment with Dr. Tom Prichard, then you know you’re going to receive the best wrestling education money can buy.

FITE TV Host and co-host of “Mind Of The Meanie” podcast Josh Shernoff sat down for a brief lesson with Prichard on his show So Says Shernoff to promote the good doctor’s new show on AdFreeShows.com. Shernoff asked Dr. Tom if he still has the ability to be a fan of wrestling after he’s broken down ever single facet of the business that he grew up a part of.

“I do get immersed in it when I have guys who are authentic and believe it themselves and will go and do what we’re supposed to do,” Prichard told Shernoff. “I don’t necessarily don’t get into the guys who do the old ‘nod, nod, wink, wink,’ like we’re all in on the joke and things like that. I don’t appreciate that. I appreciate guys like Roman Reigns or Sheamus or guys who actually go out and feel this and have an instinct for it and yes, it’s certainly entertainment, but this is sports-based.”

Prichard continues, stating the importance of having all the basic tools of wrestling always available in your tackle box, including the visual aspect.

“You have to be in shape, you have to have some kind of instinct and feel for what you do when you step out there and the guys who are real and authentic and believe it when they step into the ring and even prior to that and get psyched up backstage, those are the guys who I feel are the real pros and still make it real and make it entertaining not for just me, but other fans who enjoys seeing that. And the thing about professional wrestling is we want to create that illusion where you want to forget about the realities of life and things like that, but when you watch the ring action and you watch a guy like Brock Lesnar and watch how he manhandles people and does it in such a real, authentic fashion. Those are the guys who understand it’s business, but that’s what this business is, is to create that illusion so I can still be a fan certainly, but what I’m not a fan of is the guys who don’t go to the gym, who don’t look the part, who don’t even make an attempt to be authentic or look the part, they’re playing a part and the guys who are the real characters they portray just when they go on stage or in the ring turn up that volume to 10 are the ones I really enjoy watching.”
