Big E And King Woods Explain Why They Want New Day To Turn Heel Again

Former WWE Champion Big E and King Woods want the New Day to turn heel again.

The two men, alongside Kofi Kingston, have arguably been the most impressive stable in recent WWE history, and the group has purely been a babyface act for the past several years. Still, they know that being heels again, for the first time since the formation of the trio, would be fun.

In an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro.co.uk, Woods expressed his excitement about this potential switch by joking that he’s a “horrible person.” He noted that it’s fun to yell at kids and generate legitimate heat. Woods also stated that he “wouldn’t be mad” if the group turned heel; in fact, they regularly talk about it.

“Yeah! One hundred percent – I’m a horrible person,” said Woods. “It’s just super fun to scream at little kids, ’cause when we were heels before, our stuff would see kids getting legitimately mad and upset at us. It’s just so much fun to be snarky, to be rude and disliked.

“It’s great being cheered, and people pulling for us and being the good guys – both sides are really fun to play, but I wouldn’t be mad at it at all. We love that, we talk about it all the time!”

Likewise, Big E admitted that it’s “so much fun” to be the bad guy, and all three men stars have “always wanted” to turn heel for this very reason. That being said, he emphasized how being a babyface is a natural match for the charitable work he’s focused on outside of the ring. For this reason, it makes more sense to remain a good guy, at least for now.

“Honestly, we have [wanted that[ the entire time – we’ve always wanted to turn heel,” said Big E. “It’s just so much fun.”

“What I’m doing in the ring dovetails so well into all the things I wanna do outside of the ring, as far as just charitable work, just telling my story with my issues with depression and mental health. I just don’t think it makes a lot of sense right now.’

That being said, Big E pointed to New Day’s organic face turn in the past and noted that if situation natually calls for it, a heel turn could work well. But because the trio is getting “pretty damn good reactions,” he believes they’ll be babyfaces for the forseeable future.

“The beautiful thing is our turns kind of happened organically, in the sense that we tried to be babyfaces right out of the gate, people were not having that so we became heels, and then we just got cheered for so long, so eventually we had to turn, said Big E. “My feeling is, if we do turn, it feels organic and it feels natural again. Unfortunately, we’re in a position right now where our reactions are pretty damn good. So, I don’t see that happening any time soon, but who knows?”

Big E, Woods and Kingston wound up on the losing side of their respective matches at WWE Day 1 on January 1; Big E lost his WWE Championship, and the latter duo lost when they challenged The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
