Report: Brian Kendrick Requested His WWE Release Several Weeks Ago

Brian Kendrick has asked for his release from WWE.

According to a report from PWInsider.com, Brian Kendrick has asked WWE to be let out of his contract. Kendrick, who has most recently been working as a producer with the NXT and 205 Live brands, reportedly asked for and has been waiting for his release at least six weeks ago, and has not been present at any TV tapings in Orlando in “quite some time.”

Kendrick has not wrestled for WWE since October 2020, where he teamed with Mansoor to defeat Ever-Rise’s Chase Parker & Matt Martel (aka AEW’s 2point0). Kendrick was scheduled to make his return to the ring against Harland on NXT 2.0 on December 28, but the match never happened despite it being set up with an attack angle.

Kendrick has had three separate stints with WWE as an in-ring performer and trainer; his most recent run began in 2015 when he came back as an opponent for Finn Balor in NXT. He entered the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, then joined the WWE Cruiserweight division relaunch, winning the title once. Kendrick spent the majority of his in-ring run on the 205 Live brand, and in March 2021, WWE shared a video called “Brian Kendrick: Life After Wrestling” where Kendrick revealed plans for his transition to a backstage producer role.
