Imperium Reunites, Gunther Retains Intercontinental Title At WWE Clash At The Castle

Gunther remains WWE Intercontinental Champion following WWE Clash at the Castle.

For the first time in 30 years, the Intercontinental Championship was defended in Cardiff, Wales, at a WWE premium live event. In the second match of Clash at the Castle on Saturday, “The Ring General” Gunther put it all on the line against “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus.

To make the occasion even more notable, Imperium officially reunited as Giovanni Vinci (formerly Fabian Aichner) accompanied Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther to the ring. Before the bell, Gunther and Sheamus engaged in an intense stare-down while Vinci and Kaiser brawled at ringside with Butch and Ridge Holland to effectively remove each other from the equation.

As expected, the bout was incredibly physical with Gunther dominating in the first half. Sheamus managed to turn the tide in his favor, allowing him to connect with White Noise and the Celtic Cross. In the end, Gunther mustered up enough strength to clobber Sheamus with one final lariat to secure the three-count.

Despite the result, Sheamus received a standing ovation from the thousands in attendance at Principality Stadium.

As Sheamus’ quest to capture the Intercontinental title continues, Gunther remains steadfast in his dominant run at 85 days and counting as champion.
