WWE‘s King of the Ring premium live event is back, and this time with a brand new name.
During the March 6 episode of WWE RAW, the company announced that the event would return, with a new name, King and Queen of the Ring. The event will take place on May 27, 2023, and it will emanate from the Jeddah Super Dome, the world’s largest pillarless Superdome, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
A brief teaser video for the event also aired, highlighting several WWE superstars who may or may not be participating in the tournaments.
The official announcement, which confirmed that the event will crown a new King and Queen, is available here.
The last standalone King of the Ring event took place in 2015 and saw Bad New Barrett win the tournament by beating Neville in the finals. King of the Ring tournaments were held in 2019 and 2021. The 2021 edition also featured the finals of the Queen’s Crown tournament. Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega emerged victorious in their respective brackets in 2021.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
