Report: One WWE Talent Said Edge Going To AEW Was A ‘Lock’

Edge‘s rumored move to AEW continues to gain traction, though his status remains unclear.

Edge’s WWE contract was reportedly set to expire at the end of September. Over the past several weeks, he has increasingly been linked to AEW.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that talent within both WWE and AEW believed that the WWE Hall of Famer was heading to AEW. Per Sapp, as early as mid-August, some AEW wrestlers said they heard he was coming in. Additionally, Sapp wrote that as recently as this past week, one WWE talent said it was a “lock” that Edge as going to AEW.

Edge has been taken off WWE’s internal rosters. Though he remains on the WWE.com roster, that is typically not updated until departures become official. WWE removed him from the opening of SmackDown this past week.

Updates On Edge’s Name, Theme Song

Sapp went on to cite a source who expressed their belief that WWE does not own the exclusive licensing rights to Edge’s “Metalingus” theme song. Another source noted that though a deal could be reached, WWE likely didn’t think it was necessary.

Per Sapp, WWE does not have a license to the legend’s former theme, “Never Gonna Stop”, by Rob Zombie. As expected, WWE owns the name Edge, so he wouldn’t be able to use that name anymore.
