Matt Hardy Has Been Creatively Frustrated, Believes There’s A Better Way To Utilize The Hardyz In AEW

Matt Hardy hopes to turn the corner in All Elite Wrestling sooner rather than later.

On the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the All Elite Wrestling star spoke about his last few months in the company. Matt believes The Hardyz haven’t been utilized properly, but there are ways they can make positive contributions.

“It’s very important, I feel, to just state that I feel like there is such a great spot for us at AEW if we’re just utilized in the correct way. And we’ve just got to get there. Because still — Jon, as you were talking about earlier, that Wrestlecade we had this week. They said it was the biggest house they’d ever had for WrestleCade. We had such an insane line at the meet-and-greet. There’s still a huge fanbase that wants to see us and we’re beloved,” Matt Hardy explained.

There is so much we can do

“Sure, we’re not Matt and Jeff Hardy of 1999-2000, but there is so much we can do to help young guys continue to come up and also give our rub-off to these young guys. But we just need to be utilized in the right way and we hope we can get there,” Matt added. “We feel like we’re taking steps in the correct direction now. I feel like that. I feel like what we did tonight was a good step.”

Jeff agreed with him, talking about some highlights from the Hardys & Isiah Kassidy vs. Action Andretti & Top Flight match on Dynamite. Matt believes he and Jeff have been patient. However, how they’ve been used over the last four months on AEW TV has been frustrating for him.

“And I’ll just say, creatively, just the way we’ve been utilized the last four months, it’s been very frustrating,” Matt Hardy admitted. “We’ve been very patient. But there has been a lot of frustration [with] things we’ve done and kind of how we’ve been utilized in some ways.”

“If they hate us, we’ll give them a reason to hate us.”

Matt Hardy also teased on the show that a potential heel turn could breathe new life into their tag team.

“So I feel like the natural thing to play off of is [to] channel that frustration and put it into what we’re doing. There’s people — I call them malcontents, we can call them FI’s too — those people, if they hate us, we’ll give them a reason to hate us. There’s something we can do there to evolve our characters and reinvent. It’s something we’ve never done,” Matt Hardy added.

Hardy didn’t specifically mention a heel turn. He closed by saying that they’ve done things separately, but they’ve never gone that direction together. Matt believes this new direction could be refreshing and get them back to a place where they want to be. Matt said his frustration lies in the fact that they want to be in the mix as a threat while still building younger teams, and they need to find a way to get there.
