Shawn Michaels sings the praises of Baron Corbin.
Baron Corbin returned to WWE NXT this spring, which afforded him the opportunity to evolve his character even further. During a recent appearance on Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg, Shawn Michaels analyzed Corbin’s journey in NXT. Michaels highlighted how Corbin has seemingly found his footing in recent months.
“Because he is unbelievably talented. And I think, to no fault of his own, he gets asked to do a job and does it really well,” Michaels said. “The thing is, I don’t know at any point during his career — and again, you’d have to ask him — I don’t know that anyone’s asked him, ‘What do you want to do?’ That’s something that when he came here, the first question I asked him, ‘If you had the opportunity to have some direction on where you were going, what would you want to do?’
“I always go back and tell the story, Vince gave me the opportunity years ago. I’ve got to find out who The Heartbreak Kid was. I got to evolve into him and find my footing and find my comfort zone and continue to push and take some risks. And I don’t know that Baron has always had that. He’s sort of been put into something — and again, done it really well and been effective.”
Corbin will have the opportunity to capture the NXT Championship for the first time in his career when he challenges Ilja Dragunov this Saturday at NXT Deadline.
