Mercedes Moné believes everything aligned properly when it came down to signing with All Elite Wrestling.
TBS Champion Mercedes Moné was a recent guest on HOT 97. When asked about her conversations with Tony Khan, which led to her signing with AEW, Moné said she’s thankful that Khan sees her as the best women’s wrestler of all time.
“I’m so thankful for a company like AEW and such a beautiful boss and leader like Tony Khan who saw me for what I am and he saw me as the best, the best women’s wrestler of all time,” Mercedes Moné said. “He worked an endless amount of years to try to get me and to try to get me down, and he finally got me.
“The numbers were right, the conversations were right, the alignment was right, and the goals were aligned. That’s the biggest thing. I wanted the goals of what his mission was for AEW and the women’s wrestling in AEW, and I wanted him to know how much I care and how much I want to bring to women’s wrestling here in AEW, and the alignment was just there, and now we are, making magic, and AEW has only been around for five years, and they’re creating this much headway.
“So imagine the next five years. Imagine next year because this is my first year. I’ve only been around three months, and I’m creating so much noise, so I’m just excited to see where AEW grows to because I’m growing with it is well.”
Mercedes believes she’s wrestled almost everyone she could in WWE
When asked what made her choose to sign with AEW, Moné admitted it really came down to the women’s roster that the company currently has.
“It was really the women,” Mercedes Moné admitted. “I was going back and forth watching the women on both shows, and I’ve wrestled almost everybody I could in WWE. These women here in AEW excited me. I got a little taste of Willow [Nightingale] last year, and she just blossomed into this superstar overnight, and I had instant chemistry with her.
“I’m like, I can go back and wrestle her. That’s an easy storyline. She’s so amazing. I was just watching the women, like these girls are giving me dreams, and I love dreaming about wrestling, I love seeing the visions of what moves do I want to do with the girls or how do I want to sell something?
“I hadn’t had visions of wrestling dreams in so long, so for my dreams to come back, and to have the visions and the dreams of the AEW girls, that’s where I knew. I’m like, yup, the alignment’s here. This is the place where I have to be. This is the place I want to be.”
