Mustafa Ali recalls the best prank he ever witnessed — at least the one he can tell publicly.
Ali recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, who asked if he ever witnessed a great backstage prank during his time in the wrestling business. Ali, who currently performs for TNA Wrestling, called back to his tenure with WWE. The former TNA X Division Champion said two individuals were “very, very eager for an opportunity” in the company.
Ali said the person playing the prank would tell the unnamed wrestlers that “he” was watching, implying Vince McMahon had a camera installed above the ring.
“[They were told] ‘Hey, you looked a little winded in there. Your cardio kinda sucked. You need to start showing up at these live events early. And you need to start getting some training in.’ And then the person playing the rib pointed up at the sky and said, ‘He’s watching.’ Implying that he, who shall not be named, has a camera planted above there and is watching us.”
Mustafa Ali says this went on for months
Ali said these “two poor individuals” would keep showing up early at events to work on their cardio, with no idea they were being pranked. In fact, Ali still has no idea if they ever found out the truth about it.
“They would just do conditioning, and they would look up and they go, like thumbs up. And this went on for months. And for anyone that knows our schedule back, it’s brutal,” Ali explained. “You are flying, you’re landing, you have enough time to grab like Chipotle and maybe a gym session, and you go on the road. And then you are back on the road. So for these guys to come in early was brutal. I actually don’t know if they know that that was a rib to this day.”
