Cody Rhodes Insisted That He Did His Own Stunts In Street Fighter

Cody Rhodes has revealed how much his wrestling background helped him with the physicality of playing Guile in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie.

During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rhodes was asked if it was easy to incorporate his wrestling background into the role of Colonel Guile. The American Nightmare confirmed that it was and went on to reveal that he wanted to perform his own stunts in the movie.

“The physicality part of Guile was, I felt, a pretty easy pick-up,” Rhodes said. “And a bit of a spoiler — for what I hope is going to be a monster movie. Guile does a few things in the video games. You know Guile’s going to do a Sonic Boom. You know he’s going to do the Flash Kick. I was adamant that anything that’s a stunt, I wanted to do it. That means being on the wires, and I wanted to do it.

“If you put another guy over in the corner who’s going to do the shot afterward, I still wanted a shot at it. I wanted to. And credit to JV and his stunt squad, who put these fights together — because it’s Street Fighter, you need fights. It’s a fighting tournament. It was unbelievable. Very easy for me to jump right into it, and JV had a great team around me that let me take one go at a couple of things that I hope make it into the movie.”

Cody Rhodes praises Street Fighter director Kitao Sakurai

“That movie — if you’ve ever played the game, particularly Street Fighter II — what Kitao Sakurai has done as the director is unbelievable. It’s just fan service. I mean, if you just saw us walking around the lot in Australia… you’ve got Dhalsim, you’ve got Ken, you’ve got Ryu, you’ve got Chun-Li. I don’t want to say the ‘real final boss,’ but in that game, you know… it’s a really wonderful cast.

“One thing that was awesome in this movie is Noah, Galena, and Koji. They’re the three leads, unbelievably good actors who were taking it so dead serious. They were there to work every day. So then you’ve got me, 50 Cent, Andrew Schulz, and Roman — and we were able to play. They let us have a lot of fun. And I hope people enjoy how I approached Guile, because it’s different, perhaps, than the straight military man you’d expect.”
