Cody Rhodes remains one of WWE’s biggest stars, but the Undisputed WWE Champion is already thinking about what comes after his full-time in-ring career.
Speaking recently about his future, Rhodes offered a candid look at how much longer he expects to compete at the highest level.
With Night of Champions approaching and Rhodes still firmly positioned at the top of WWE programming, his comments provided an interesting glimpse into how he views the next chapter of his career.
While retirement isn’t around the corner, The American Nightmare made it clear that he isn’t planning to wrestle forever.
Cody Rhodes says WWE will have a new “QB1” in the future
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Rhodes was asked about where he sees himself a decade from now. The champion admitted that the physical demands of professional wrestling eventually catch up with everyone.
“You said 10 years? I don’t think in 10 years… I do think it takes a toll at a certain point, and I don’t think in 10 years I’ll still be going. I think there will be another QB1 of WWE at that point.”
Rhodes, who turns 41 next week, noted that he currently feels as good as he ever has. However, he doesn’t envision himself still competing full-time a decade from now.
“As far as in-ring competition, I’ll be done. I’m turning 41 in a week, and I feel the best I’ve ever felt, but I do think that in 10 years I won’t be wrestling bell-to-bell, no.”
The comments don’t signal an imminent exit. In fact, Rhodes also hinted that he still has plenty left in the tank. When discussing a potential future WWE contract, he suggested a five-year deal could make sense.
“I think five years would… you know, five years sounds good. If I were to sign a new contract, maybe it would be for five years.”
For now, Rhodes is still carrying the ball as one of WWE’s leading stars. With a Triple Threat Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Gunther and Sami Zayn set for Night of Champions, his focus remains firmly on the present — even as he keeps one eye on the finish line.
