Darby Allin embraces the extreme.
Given his track record as a daredevil, the element of surprise is now relatively rare for former AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin. Still, he managed to stun journalist Ariel Helwani during an sit-down interview on The Ariel Helwani Show.
While explaining his tendency to go to extreme lengths in his personal and professional life, Allin baffled Helwani by pouring water on his head, simply “because it’s funny.” Allin also stated that the cold liquid helped him wake up.
When Helwani then asked if the water had dampened his pants, Allin admitted that he didn’t care either way. At that point, Helwani conceded, recognzing that “You fall on a freaking stack of glass. A little water is not going to bother you.”
According to Allin, he will do certain activities just for fun, without or without a camera present. This includes jumping off a roof and landing in a bush.
“A lot of the fans say, ‘Darby, you don’t have to impress us anymore. Don’t go crazy.’ I’m not doing it for you. I’m doing it for me because I’m literally breaking down mental barriers in my mind,” Allin said. “Breaking down mental barriers in my mind every time I go out there and doing something crazier because it’s coming from a life of just being told you’re not going to amount to sh*t.
“You spend your whole life believing what those people are saying. So you’re like, ‘Oh, I guess, I’m just going to work at a fast food job the rest of my life, a lot of standing on my feet working for somebody else.’ You believe that, but the moment I started doing crazy sh*t, it made me feel like anything was possible. So I go out there and just go crazy.”
