AEW Collision Results

Tonight’s episode of Collision kicks off with tag team action as two teams who simply can’t get along go head-to-head.

Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada vs. Anthony Bowens and Max Caster

  • The finish of the match saw Konosuke Takeshita hit Max Caster with Raging Fire to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada

Grade: B+

I honestly didn’t expect this match to be so competitive. With Caster and Bowens still not on the same page, I assumed the Don Callis Family would be able to co-exist long enough to get a quick win. However, BOTH teams are not on the same page, and it helped lead to a pretty fun story told in this matchup. Very fun match to kick off the show.

The Babes of Wrath are ready for action

We hear from Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron backstage, now calling themselves the Babes of Wrath, hyping up their match with Mercedes Moné and Athena next week on Dynamite. The winning team will advance to the semi-finals to face the Sisters of Sin in the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Title Tournament.

AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander joins the commentary team for the next match.

CMLL World Women’s Championship: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Olympia

  • The finish of the match saw Mercedes Moné lock Olympia in the Statement Maker to win the match via submission.

Winner: And still CMLL World Women’s Champion, Mercedes Moné

Grade: A-

I admittedly haven’t seen a ton of CMLL, but I really like what I’ve seen from Olympia these past two weeks. This match with Mercedes was awesome, and I really hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of her in AEW.

Can the Young Bucks get back on track?

Renee Paquette is backstage with the Young Bucks, who aren’t sure how they are going to get back on track. They are interrupted by Don Callis, who tells them that he negotiated a million-dollar match for Full Gear if they will team with Josh Alexander to take on Jurassic Express and Kenny Omega. Matt and Nick don’t answer, but Callis assumes they agree as he walks away, leaving them to think about what they just heard.

Jon Moxley joins the commentary team for the next match.

Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne (w/ Penelope Ford) vs. Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize

  • The finish of the match saw Marina Shafir lock Miranda Aliza in Mother’s Milk to score the submission victory for her team.

Winners: Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir

Grade: N/A

Just a quick squash match to showcase the newly formed team. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing worth grading either.

Women’s Blood and Guts teams announced

In a video package narrated by Renee Paquette, it’s announced that the women’s Blood and Guts match will be six-on-six. The teams are…

The Triangle of Madness, Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir, and Mercedes Moné vs. Jamie Hayter, Queen Aminata, Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron, Toni Storm, and Kris Statlander

Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, and Komander (w/ Alex Abrahantes ) vs. LFI

  • The finish of the match saw Mark Briscoe hit Dralistico with the Jay Driller to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, and Komander

Grade: B+

This was a very fun trios match. I wasn’t really sure how the trio of Briscoe, Strong, and Komander would work together, but it was pretty seamless, and the six men put on a very entertaining match. Good stuff.

Your AEW Full Gear main event is set

We get a recap of the finish of Dynamite when Hangman Page dressed up like Tony Schiavone to attack Samoa Joe and The Opps. The two men will face each other again later this month at AEW Full Gear.

The Bang Bang Gang answers MxM TV’s casting call tonight.

MxM TV (w/ Taya Valkyrie) vs. The Bang Bang Gang

  • The finish of the match saw Ace Austin hit Mansoor with The Fold. Juice Robinson scores the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: The Bang Bang Gang

Grade: B

I honestly expected this to be more of a squash match than it was. Actually turned out to be a solid match for the time it was given. However, the winners were never in doubt.

We get a video package hyping up tonight’s main event.

Ring of Honor World Championship: Bandido (c) vs. Mascara Dorada (w/ Alex Abrahantes)

  • The finish of the match saw Bandido hit Mascara Dorada with the 21Plex to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still Ring of Honor World Champion, Bandido

Grade: A

Bandido shows respect to Dorada after the match and celebrates with both of his championships as AEW Collision goes off the air.

AEW Collision Review:

Tonight’s episode of Collision was very low on talk and very high on action. For fans who just want a pure wrestling show broadcast, I’m sure they really enjoyed this show. I thought the in-ring work tonight, for the most part, was very good. The CMLL involvement really helped those two title matches in particular stand out above the rest.

The main event between Bandido and Mascara Dorada easily stole the show and gave fans a thrilling matchup to end the evening on. They often say fans only remember the finish, and if this match is the last thing you remember coming out tonight’s episode, I’m led to believe tonight’s episode of Collision was pretty damn great.

While I would have personally preferred one in-ring talking segment to move a storyline along heading into Full Gear, I understand that sometimes when you’re doing a double-taping event, you don’t want to put that out in front of a crowd several hours into the show and fear that they might sit on their hands. But sometimes I think the risk is worth the reward. We’re only a few short weeks away from Full Gear, and every show is important in the lead-up to that event.

Tonight felt more important in the build for Blood and Guts than it did the actual pay-per-view, but I completely understand that decision. Overall, I enjoyed tonight’s show as we got a lot of great in-ring action, but I just wish it had featured more than that to get the show past B+ territory.

Grade: B+
