Drew McIntyre is sad over not being a part of John Cena’s retirement tour.
Ahead of entering WarGames this Saturday at Survivor Series, Drew McIntyre spoke to ESPN. During the conversation, he addressed the ongoing John Cena retirement tour and heaped praise on the 17-time WWE Champion. He also expressed his disappointment over not being one of Cena’s final opponents.
“He’s meant everything to our industry. When The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin left WWE, the top superstars, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, were at the end of their careers, and the company and the world needed somebody to step up into that top position.
“John stepped up in a massive way for multiple generations, and it’s insane to see that he’s about to have his last couple of matches. I’m sad I didn’t get one of them. But I’m glad I’m part of the roster. I’m glad I got to travel the world. I’m glad I got to learn from John Cena because he is a legend and he might just be the GOAT,” Drew McIntyre said.
While Drew McIntyre didn’t get to face John Cena in a proper one-on-one match in his retirement tour, he did team up with Logan Paul to take on Cena and Cody Rhodes in a tag team match on the August 8, 2025, episode of SmackDown. He also competed against Cena and four other opponents inside the Elimination Chamber at the titular event in March 2025.
Drew McIntyre Revealed The Worst Finisher He’s Taken
During a recent appearance on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Drew McIntyre revealed that Kane’s chokeslam was the hardest and painful finisher he’s ever taken in his career.
“Chokeslam, from Kane,” Drew McIntyre said. “Horrible. I know the difference between Kane’s chokeslam, The Undertaker’s chokeslam, Big Show’s chokeslam, and all the chokeslams I’ve taken in my life. But every time Kane did it to me…
“To be fair, that time when I was wrestling him, I was 24, IC Champion. I was a bit clueless — still finding my way. I was a bit arrogant. Maybe he was just trying to put me through the ring. I don’t know. But he’s very big, very strong, and that chokeslam hurt like hell.”
