Matt Hardy Reacts To Being Called A Top Grifter

Matt Hardy claps back at a fan who claimed he’s promoting tribalism in pro wrestling.

Hardy is normally very fair in his opinions about pro wrestling, regularly praising AEW as being good for the overall health of the business. However, he has been under fire as of late due to his recent remarks about five-star matches.

Hardy, one-half of the TNA World Tag Team Champions with his brother, Jeff, said that he wants TNA to focus more on storytelling than five-star matches. It’s fine for AEW to do that type of wrestling, but Hardy felt that TNA’s audience is expecting something different. Hardy added that good pro wrestling is still important. However, he believes that TNA is looking for an audience that will be compelled by storytelling and characters.

Days later, Hardy took issue with a social media post by AEW’s Dax Harwood, who said that wrestlers secretly wish they had five-star matches as they get older. Hardy believed that Harwood indirectly called him out, but Harwood denied that that was the case.

On Friday, a fan tagged Hardy’s Extreme Life of Matt Hardy co-host, Jon Alba, and asked if he was tired of sitting by while he watched Matt become a “top grifter.”

“Hey Jon, curious as someone who tries to help put out the flames of the tribalism in the IWC why you’ve just been sitting idly by while Matt loses his mind of late by becoming a top grifter.”

Both Alba and Hardy responded to the post, with Hardy pointing out how he’s very unbiased about the wrestling industry. Hardy also said that he’s not a “negative” podcaster and that he and Alba regularly have a healthy discourse, regardless of whether they agree on everything or not.

“Hey @No_BigDylan.. Tell me you don’t consume @MattHardyPod without telling me you don’t consume @MattHardyPod. There’s no wrestling personality that’s more fair & unbiased than I am when it comes to commenting on the industry – Although you labeled me a “top grifter.” HaHaHa,” Matt Hardy wrote on Twitter/X.

“@AEW’s success is crucial to the health of the pro wrestling industry. I am never a “negative” podcaster & if I criticism any promotion, it’s fair. NO ONE is more for the health of all promotions & the betterment of the industry than I am,” Hardy continued. “Last but not least, @JonAlba is never afraid to push back if he feels differently. We actually engaged in conversations that don’t deteriorate into insults & name calling. We can both remain polite & agree to disagree, which is an eroding quality of mankind nowadays, esp on social media.”
