Kevin Nash defends Rey Mysterio’s WCW run.
WWE President Nick Khan raised many eyebrows with his assessment of Rey Mysterio’s run in Ted Turner’s former promotion. Speaking on Logan Paul’s Impulsive podcast, Khan downplayed Rey’s WCW tenure, crediting WWE for the Hall of Famer’s success and popularity.
“There was one match, you and Rey Mysterio,” Khan said. “Think about the work that guy has put into his career. When he was in WCW, he was considered a nothing. A nothing. He came to WWE, and he had a great luchador history prior to WCW, he came to WWE, and the machine got behind him.
“He did everything he needed to do to be elevated by that machine. In that match, you saw him save you or certainly help you, or make sure there wasn’t physical injury, which there could have been. I remember watching how quickly he did it and how instinctively he knew what to do. It made me happy that you were in the ring with one of the all-time great pros.” [H/T: Fightful]
Kevin Nash reacts to Nick Khan’s comments regarding Rey Mysterio
Former WCW World Champion Kevin Nash was asked to share his perspective on Nick Khan’s comments during a Q&A session on his podcast.
Explaining WCW’s decision to unmask Rey Mysterio, Nash admitted he hadn’t been aware of the significance of the luchador mask at the time.
“I didn’t know the significance of, you know, taking somebody’s mask off,” Nash explained, adding that he viewed Mysterio as a “good-looking young kid,” believing he could cross over into commercials and mainstream media without the mask.
“WCW… went out of business in… 2001. And it’s 2025… so you’ve had him for… 25 years,” Nash said. “I sure as f*ck hope so… You got a f*cking $5 billion f*cking Netflix deal… He means more, really, there’s more eyes on him now. God, that Nick’s a f*cking crafty f*cking guy.” [H/T WrestlingNews.co]
