Bully Ray Reflects On The Lasting Legacy Of ECW

Bully Ray believes the lasting legacy of ECW can still be felt decades later, despite the company closing back in 2001.

Extreme Championship Wrestling, otherwise known as ECW, ran from 1992 to 2001. As many remember it as a promotion based out of Philadelphia, the company toured all over the world, and many considered it the third biggest company on the planet at the time, behind WWE and WCW. Due to a poor financial situation, the company was forced to close its doors in 2001.

Despite WWE buying the company in bankruptcy court and running multiple pay-per-views and a weekly show with the ECW name, they were never able to truly recapture the magic of what made ECW great.

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray took to social media today to reflect on the 25th anniversary of ECW closing its doors and the lasting legacy the company still has in 2026, tweeting out:

“25yrs ago today, ECW ran its last show. 25yrs later, fans still chant ECW. The Revolution continues…,” Bully Ray said in a post.
