AEW Collision Results:
This week’s episode of Collision kicks off with the AEW in-ring return of Andrade El Idolo.
Andrade El Idolo (w/ Don Callis) vs. Angelico (w/ Serptentico)
- The finish of the match saw Andrade El Idolo hit Angelico with the DM to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Andrade El Idolo
Grade: B+
This was a showcase match for Andrade, but not an absolute squash. El Idolo should be presented as a special talent, and I think that was done here properly. This was an enjoyable way to kick off tonight’s show.
The Rascalz are smoking up AEW
Lexy Nair is backstage and knocks on The Rascalz’s locker room. The door opens with a puff of smoke as Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz, and Myron Reed come out. Trey Miguel isn’t present. Xavier talks about how AEW is where the best wrestle and they’ve been one of the best groups for the past decade, so it’s only right that they are there. A lot of weed jokes are made. If you’re familiar with this group, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary.
Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Eddie Kingston and Ortiz
- The finish of the match saw Ortiz hit James Drake with a ball in a sock away from the view of the referee, and Eddie Kingston followed up with a DDT to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Eddie Kingston and Ortiz
Grade: A-
This match overdelivered for me. I like all four men, but for some reason wasn’t expecting much from this one. I’m very happy to be wrong. This match freaking ruled. Props for all four men on an awesome tag match.
Kris Statlander can’t be easier to find
We hear from Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale, and Harley Cameron. They are all apologizing to each other for what happened with their loss on Dynamite. There’s no bad blood, and Statlander says she was happy to take the bullet for her friends. Statlander calls out Thekla for pinning her on Dynamite and lets her know she couldn’t be easier to find, seemingly proposing a future title matchup between the two.
Let’s hear from FTR
Tony Schiavone is on the stage and brings out the AEW World Tag Team Champions, FTR and Big Stoke, still utilizing a wheelchair to get around after his hilarious bump at Worlds End. Big Stoke says he’s not going to say anything bad about the Don Callis Family and congratulates the new number one contenders.
Stoke says Mark Davis and Jake Doyle have it all except the ability to beat the greatest tag team alive today, FTR. Cash Wheeler says you don’t have to take his word for it, and namedrops Sports Illustrated and ESPN for naming them the tag team of the year in 2025. Wheeler says Doyle and Davis are good, but they aren’t FTR good.
Dax Harwood says he knows Tony Schiavone is used to coming to work and doing the bare minimum and still getting paid, but asks him to hold the microphone for him. Harwood makes fun of Nigel McGuinness as he sits at the booth. Dax wants to be asked what he hates most about these people, and the crowd responds with a “we have hair” chant. Harwood tries to put a spin on Doyle and Davis, like the crowd is behind them, and that is absolutely not the case. I get this is a heel vs. heel match, but let’s be real.
Unless this match is taking place in Australia next month, Davis and Doyle aren’t getting cheered. This promo logically went off the rails at the end.
We get a vignette from The CRU, and they call out The Rascalz for a future match.
Zayda Steel (w/ Christopher Daniels) vs. Marina Shafir (w/ Jon Moxley)
- The finish of the match saw Marina Shafir lock Zayda Steel in Mother’s Milk to win the match via submission.
Winner: Marina Shafir
Grade: B-
The match was fine; we knew how this was going to go before the bell rang. Nothing bad, but nothing great either. Just a solid matchup.
As the Don Callis Family made their way to the ring, Jon Moxley and Callis started trading barbs on the commentator’s table. This leads to an all-out brawl between the Death Riders and the Don Callis family. SkyFlight hit the ring and dove on the Don Callis Family, who are brawling with the Death Riders outside the ring. That trios match is next.
SkyFlight (w/ Christopher Daniels) vs. Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander, and El Clon of the Don Callis Family
- The finish of the match saw Josh Alexander hit Darius Martin with a trapped arm piledriver to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: The Don Callis Family
After the match, Konosuke Takeshita makes his way to the ring. Don Callis tries to get a hug, but Takeshita bypasses him to shake Fletcher’s hand and gives him a big hug. Protoshita is alive and well, it seems.
Grade: B+
This was a very fun trios match. You can just tell it’s only a matter of time before Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita break away from the Don Callis Family and become two of the biggest babyfaces in the company. It’s only a matter of time.
Roderick Strong doesn’t want to Conglomerate
Lexy Nair is backstage with Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy. It’s announced that Strong became the number one contender for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in Arena Mexico. Strong says he’s not done with the Death Riders and his sights are set on getting that title from Claudio Castagnoli.
Orange Cassidy wants to help out, but Strong wants nothing to do with him or the Conglomeration. He tries to leave, and Mark Briscoe brings him back in and tries to convince him that it’s smart to stick with them so they can help him to get the title shot. Briscoe cuts one of his vintage promos, and Strong just walks away.
We get a video package for AEW World Champion MJF
Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford vs. Danielle Kamela and Viva Van
- The finish of the match saw Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford hit Danielle Kamela with the Doomsday Device. Ford scores the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford
After the match, Marina Shafir joins Bayne and Ford in the ring. They are interrupted by Timeless Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, and Luther. The Timeless Love Bombs made it abundantly clear with very colorful language that they aren’t done with the three women standing in the ring.
Grade: N/A
Complete and utter squash. This was a showcase match in every sense of the word. Nothing here is worth grading.
Is Kevin Knight the future or the now?
Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana are backstage with Lexy Nair. Strickland isn’t happy about being asked about Kenny Omega and begins to talk about his plans to get another shot at the AEW World Championship, but they are interrupted by Kevin Knight.
Knight says he’s been thinking a lot about what Swerve told him, and being described as the future triggered him. Knight says he isn’t the future; he’s the now. Kevin believes it’s time to start beating some of the bigger names for everyone to realize that he is the now.
Strickland tells Knight to go win the Trios Championship tonight, and they can have that conversation. Swerve says Knight is the future and sees him as a future main eventer as well, but warns him not to take five or six years to get there. Strickland laughs and walks away as Knight is left looking angry.
Ricochet joins the commentary team for the next match.
AEW National Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Jungle Jack Perry vs. Anthony Bowens
- The finish of the match saw Jack Perry hit Anthony Bowens with the running knee to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Jungle Jack Perry
After the match, the two men show respect to each other and shake hands. Ricochet runs his mouth at the commentary booth, and Perry jumps him as they brawl to the backstage area.
Grade: A-
Damn good match. Another match I wasn’t expecting a ton from, but I was pleasantly surprised. There’s been a lot of good wrestling on tonight’s show that actually means something. I can definitely appreciate that.
We get a video package hyping tonight’s main event for the AEW World Trios Championship.
The Death Riders are coming after the Don Callis Family
The Death Riders are backstage. Jon Moxley says they have given the Don Callis Family a lot of space, but the match Callis lit tonight is something different entirely. PAC wants to know who the f*ck they think they are and questions if they have forgotten who they are and what they do.
Daniel Garcia says they don’t know what a family is. Garcia says when the whole world hates you, and you still have their back. Moxley says he’s been in this business for 22 years and has seen every slimy snake in this business, so he knows exactly who Callis is. Moxley says he’s the worst when he has to be.
AEW World Trios Championship: The Opps (c) vs. Hangman Page and JetSpeed
- The finish of the match saw Kevin Knight catch Powerhouse Hobbs with a flash rollup to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: And NEW AEW World Trios Champions, Hangman Page and JetSpeed
Grade: A-
The new champions celebrate as Swerve Strickland stands on the stage and does a mocking golf clap for Kevin Knight as AEW Collision goes off the air.
AEW Collision Review:
This episode of Collision was leaps and bounds better than what we got over the last two weeks. It’s almost like when they aren’t in Esports Stadium, they actually try to put on a show of substance. I’m very glad this show delivered tonight after two weeks of very uneventful episodes of Collision.
Luckily, next week’s event back at that venue already has two title matches announced for the show, so hopefully that show will feel more like tonight’s show and less like the previous ones we’ve seen this year.
The main event was pretty great, and it was really nice to see Knight get the pinfall victory on Hobbs on his way out of the company. Here’s hoping Knight will be a major player for AEW for years to come.
Grade: B+
