Roman Reigns’ comments against CM Punk during their promo segment on WWE RAW made more sense than many realize.
Roman Reigns appeared on this week’s episode of WWE RAW after winning the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk interrupted him, leading to a promo battle between the two superstars.
During the segment, Roman Reigns brought up CM Punk’s comments from his interview on Colt Cabana’s podcast following his WWE exit in 2014. Reigns noted that the podcast made his life harder than it ever should’ve been. Now, a fan on X/Twitter pointed out why Reigns’ words make sense since Punk’s comments on the podcast essentially ruined the OTC’s original babyface run.
CM Punk had noted on the podcast how WWE officials told him to make Roman Reigns look strong during his handicap match against The Shield at TLC 2013. The impact of his comments was evident during Reigns’ singles push in 2015, as they confirmed fans’ suspicions that WWE was planning to over-push Reigns. It resulted in the latter getting booed out of the building after he won the 2015 Royal Rumble. Even The Rock’s involvement couldn’t save him.
Roman Reigns eventually overcame the adversity with his Tribal Chief character. However, he remembers the time it took to pull it off, which makes him justified when he said CM Punk made his life harder than it should’ve been.
Roman Reigns and CM Punk are set to collide at WrestleMania 42
After a back-and-forth battle of words, Roman Reigns eventually chose CM Punk as his opponent for WrestleMania 42. The Straight Edge Superstar might have to deal with Finn Balor in the middle. However, the level of long-term storytelling WWE has pulled off in their promo segment makes it almost certain that Punk and Reigns will square off for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of the Grandest Stage of Them All.
CM Punk and Roman Reigns last competed in a singles match on the January 6, 2014, episode of WWE RAW. The latter emerged victorious in the contest, and it will be interesting to see if he can dethrone Punk at WrestleMania to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
