Conor McGregor’s recent jab at Roman Reigns was reportedly more calculated than it appeared.
On June 14, Roman Reigns made an appearance at UFC Freedom 250, prompting McGregor to respond with a dismissive “Who?” on social media.
According to Fightful Select, sources within TKO said McGregor was fully aware of who Reigns is and that the remark was simply his way of creating “corporate synergy” between UFC and WWE while generating attention for his comeback.
While Fightful noted that it has not been confirmed whether the two stars have ever met or interacted personally, sources indicated they are certainly aware of one another.
McGregor and Reigns have a history of indirectly trading barbs. Nearly a decade ago, McGregor criticized WWE and later doubled down on his comments, leading to a memorable response from Reigns, who joked that McGregor was “the size of my leg.”
Following his dig at Reigns, McGregor addressed the possibility of stepping into a WWE ring. He described WWE and mixed martial arts as separate forms of entertainment with different performers, adding that any crossover would first need to feel organic in the eyes of fans.
McGregor’s highly anticipated return at UFC 329 was cut short, however, as he suffered a knee injury less than a minute into the fight, bringing an abrupt end to his comeback.
