Logan Paul first appeared in the WWE in 2021, and within such a short span of time, he has established himself as one of the best in-ring performers who don’t come from a traditional professional wrestling background.
But before Paul, there is The Miz, who has never hesitated to address himself as WWE’s ultimate outsider. During a recent appearance on Six Feet Under with The Undertaker, he admitted that Paul has followed his WWE gimmick and is doing a great job.
Coming from Miz, that’s a big praise, especially since he knows what it’s like to be doubted. He even shared a story about being kicked out of the locker room after eating chicken over another wrestler’s bag. Chris Benoit, who was strict about locker room rules, told him to leave. Miz said he stayed out of the locker room for almost six months.
After Benoit left the company, Miz didn’t know how to get back in. Eventually, he was told to talk to The Undertaker, and thanks to the Deadman, he got back in the locker room once again. That moment was a turning point for Miz.
The Miz Awestruck by How Quickly Logan Paul Adapted to WWE
Miz also praised Paul’s progress in the ring and how quickly he has picked things up.
“Logan trained as well. But Logan was the fastest I’ve ever seen anyone pick up WWE in my life. I’ve never, and I like, I know I’ve said this before, but it still blows my mind how good he is and how good he can be. I do feel he’s the future of this business, and I know…and the funny part is, he’s doing my gimmick!” Miz said.
The Miz talked about how tough it was for him to move from MTV’s The Real World into WWE back in the mid-2000s. At that time, the locker room and fans weren’t very welcoming to outsiders.
“When he (Logan Paul) said, ‘Yeah, I’m an outsider,’ I was like, ‘I wonder who the first outsider was,'” Miz joked. “I was on the Real World, coming to WWE when it was hard to do that. Now you’re a YouTuber, and we applaud it, ‘Oh, he’s in here.’ But our audience won’t. But everyone else is like, yeah.”
Miz joked that Paul was “stealing” his gimmick, but it was clear he meant it as a compliment. “I was like, ‘Oh man, this dude’s stealing my gimmick.’ And he’s doing a really good job of it too,” he said.
Now, years later, the same outsider who once struggled for acceptance is one of WWE’s most respected veterans. And when he looks at Logan Paul, he sees someone walking a similar path. Maybe even moving faster than he did.
