Ricochet was in hot water with some fans after he took a dig at a fan who has MS.
AEW posted a video of Ricochet having a backstage meltdown after losing the National Championship at AEW Revolution. One fan replied to the post, teasing Ricochet about his acting abilities.
“His acting hasn’t improved,” the post said, along with several laughing emojis.
Ricochet replied to her, writing the following after seeing some personal information in her Twitter bio: “I’m glad you got MS.”
MS, or multiple sclerosis, is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. MS ultimately disrupts communication between the brain, spinal cord and body, and can present several symptoms that include mobility issues, vision impairment and fatigue.
Ricochet was quickly taken to task over his insulting remark
Despite being in-character while making the remark, Ricochet was immediately criticized by a large portion of fans on social media who felt that he crossed a line. Some said that he was simply being a heel online, but others said that there’s a difference between being a heel and going too far, like mocking someone for a disease.
“So ricochet is actually a shoot piece of shit,” one fan wrote.
“Ricochet going after someone with MS is now officially on par with the trolls who come after me for being an amputee,” wrote another. “Worthless fucking trash who don’t deserve oxygen.”
“Fuck Ricochet. This is not even him being a heel at all either but rather just a straight up piece of shit,” added another.
Fans even went into the mentions of the AEW Games Twitch channel while he was streaming to bring up Ricochet’s remark about MS.
The AEW star wrote a subsequent post about fans being able to say “the most vile things” to him and his wife, including wishing death on him. He pointed out the hypocrisy in being able to dish it out, but not take it, saying there are “fucking pussies, everywhere.”
Ricochet later said that he was simply trying to point out the hypocrisy of fans on social media, and was not whining about how people treat him.
The backlash over his initial post was clearly enough to take action, as Ricochet has since deleted the post that insulted the fan. However, it’s unclear if he removed it himself, or if another party asked him to take it down.
